This year also marks two significant milestones in the decades-long fight against HIV and AIDS: first, for the first recognition by the CDC of the virus that led to what is now known as AIDS (40 years ago, in June 1981), and second, the launch of AHF (35 years ago, June 1986).

In Los Angeles, AHF will host its 2021 World AIDS Day Concert on Wednesday, December 1st featuring renowned artists, OSCARⓇ and multi-GRAMMYⓇ winner Jennifer Hudson and multi-GRAMMYⓇ winner Christina Aguilera performing live, and multi-EMMYⓇ nominated comedian and internet sensation Randy Rainbow hosting the evening. Under its “Keep the Promise!” banner, AHF will also acknowledge progress made in the global fight against HIV and AIDS and continue to raise awareness about “The Other Pandemic” as a reminder of the significant work still to be done on HIV/AIDS.

Xtina Talks Releasing New Music and Reconnecting With Her Spanish Roots

2021.09.29. 12:15, Ani

Although many were introduced to Christina Aguilera on The Mickey Mouse Club — where she starred alongside Britney Spears — she became a household name after the debut of her self-titled debut album in 1999.

Two decades later, Christina has developed an extensive resume that includes television, film, and philanthropy. But in an exclusive interview with Distractify, Christina revealed that she’s returning to her roots with the release of her upcoming Spanish album. Along with dishing on her latest collaboration with SweeTARTS, Christina also got candid about what fans can expect from her latest project. Here’s what we know.

When is Christina Aguilera’s Spanish album coming out? Details on the release date.

The people (on Twitter) have spoken, and they are desperate for a new Xtina album. And three years after the release of “Liberation,” Christina is giving them exactly that. In February of 2021, the “Dirrty” singer took a month-long business trip to Miami to work on her album and returned home with a body of work that pays homage to her Hispanic heritage.

The singer released her first Latin Grammy award-winning Spanish album in 2000, and although “Mi Reflejo” was wildly successful, Christina says that she’s coming from “a deeper and more experienced place” in her new music, which is coming sooner than we think.

“The pandemic kind of slowed things down last year. But I’m so happy to be releasing it this year,” Christina told Distractify exclusively. “We actually came out of that month with a surplus of so much material that we actually decided to release it in increments.”

In the past, Christina has been open about her the verbal and physical abuse she suffered as a child at the hands of her Ecuadorian father. But her connection to her Spanish heritage remains intact.

Christina Aguilera talks reconnecting with her roots during Hispanic Heritage Month.

According to Christina, ahead of her parents’ divorce, she was immersed in Spanish culture thanks to her paternal grandparents. For Christina, returning to Miami to work on her latest project was a much-needed homecoming.

“There’s nothing like Latin love, and it’s so reminiscent for me to be around the language being spoken. It’s very nostalgic for me. It reminds me of my childhood,” Christina explained. “It didn’t feel like it was business. It felt like it was just a labor of love.”

After more than 20 years in the entertainment industry, Christina is the voice that keeps on giving. And with her latest partnership with SweeTARTS, she’s passing on her wisdom to budding artists in the industry — including the 15-year-old producer who won the SweetBEATS online mixer contest.

Christina Aguilera and SweeTARTS gave one 15-year-old beatmaker the opportunity of a lifetime.

In July, Christina collaborated with SweeTARTS to find the most creative beatmaker on the web. Contestants were asked to make custom beats using the SweetBEATS online mixer, which would later be judged by Christina Aguilera, herself.

The winner of the competition, August Sani, was granted the opportunity to sit in on a one-on-one session with Christina and producer Ray Charles Brown Jr., and she couldn’t be happier with the results.

“It was just wonderful to have a conversation with someone so young and at the cusp of being inspired himself by music and hearing it from fresh ears,” Christina said. “And it was great to share ideas with him. And I’ll definitely be following up with him to see where he’s going with his pursuit in music and developing his own craft.”

August and Christina’s collab, “Breezy 2015 Night” is available now on Spotify.

Mel Ottenberg on Xtina and the Looks He Styled for Her Sold-Out Hollywood Bowl Show

2021.07.22. 10:00, Ani

So okay, it was like two weeks ago on a Saturday, and I was feeling behind on my ideas for Christina Aguilera’s Hollywood Bowl performances that I was styling. So I blasted “Dirrty” and “Beautiful” on repeat while I drew, looked at shows, texted with designers, and started to figure it out. I wanted Xtina’s look to be rude and snatched and all about silhouette. And I wanted to be giving some glamour, because NOW more than ever is THE time to make a REAL EFFORT for an audience that is actually LEAVING HOME to see a LIVE PERFORMANCE. I wanted to give the people a bunch of LOOKS, even though I kinda hate reveals and didn’t want to do a bunch of quick changes backstage. So, I started thinking about a catsuit that could look killer on Christina and that would go with anything else we wanted to do. From there, the glamour and the vibes started to come together, and now I’m gonna babble a bit on the looks we created to accompany these backstage Polaroids and stage photos we have for you here.

Xtina on her next two albums and supporting Britney Spears

2021.07.16. 23:50, Ani

One of pop’s biggest voices will receive a suitably grand accompaniment when Christina Aguilera appears this weekend with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. In two concerts set for Friday and Saturday, the 40-year-old belter — who broke out alongside Britney Spears during the late 1990s teen-pop boom and has since explored R&B, Latin music, show tunes and boogie-woogie — promises an experience for which “my imagination is just running wild.”

The high-toned gig makes for a stark contrast with Spears’ ongoing legal battle over her controversial conservatorship, which Aguilera strongly condemned in a recent viral Twitter thread. On the phone from her home in Los Angeles, the singer spoke about this weekend’s shows, a pair of upcoming albums and — at least until her publicist cut in to say that Aguilera had nothing further on the subject — her fellow teen-pop survivor.

Are you into orchestral music?
I grew up around it. My mom’s a violinist and traveled abroad with an orchestra when she was 16. And I’m such a fan of scores — movies with beautiful orchestration, from the Marvel movies to “Moonlight.” I searched for who did the score to that movie — it was Nick Britell — and I had him over to my house and was like, “I would love for you to write my album intro [for 2018’s ‘Liberation’] because I’m so in love with what you did with that movie.” And meeting Gustavo — I mean, it was such an honor. He does what I live for.

What are you singing at the Bowl?
I’ve never put so much effort and time into a set list — songs like “Can’t Hold Us Down” to “Fighter” to some beautiful cover classics like [James Brown’s] “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.”

Are you reaching all the way back to “Genie in a Bottle”?
I am. There’s a reimagined version of “Genie” that’s pretty epic. There’s a Latin portion of the show where I bring back some of the songs from [2000’s] “Mi Reflejo,” and I’m thinking of doing a reggaeton spin on “What a Girl Wants.” I’m approaching this more like a theater show than a concert; each song will have a different mood, with a storytelling vibe. I love Tim Burton and Danny Elfman’s work together, so there’ll be some cool, dark, mysterious aspects to it as well.

What’s another of the classics you’re doing?
Etta James is my favorite singer — her passion and heart and feel, and the way she sang with such raw, gut-felt emotion. Normally I do “At Last” with just a piano and vocal, maybe drums and a guitar. But if you listen to the original record, it’s got that orchestra that starts with that slide. I’ve never been able to do it that way, so to sink my teeth into that — I’m thrilled.

Are you excited to get back onstage after the pandemic?
I’ve been thinking about this because I’ve been in the studio working on two records. Sometimes in the studio, certain notes are a struggle — you’re boxed into this confined booth — compared to when you’re with an audience and the live musicianship takes your adrenaline to the next level. I’m like, “Wait, that note is much easier to hit onstage.”

What are the two records?
An English record and a Spanish record. The last time I did a Spanish record was when I was baby Christina — “Mi Reflejo.” It was such a beautiful moment for me to pay tribute to my roots on my father’s side — he’s from Ecuador — and ever since I’ve been wanting to do another one. So it’s really 20 years overdue, except now I’m kind of glad it was so long because I’ve been able to come back and dig deeper into some of my personal stories regarding my dad. I’ve always had a very estranged relationship with him, and I’m kind of touching on that.

And the other album?
Totally different feel. I’m working with producers and writers that I’ve been a big fan of for a long time. One in particular is Joseph Angel — he wrote “Love on the Brain” for Rihanna. But all the writers come from such a deep, heartfelt place. It’s not about us trying to fit a mold; it’s a grown perspective that embodies everything I’ve experienced in this business and on a personal level. I made a lot of changes over quarantine — new people, new support team. The experience helped you realize who your ride-or-dies are. I’m in a really happy place, and I’ve never been able to fully say that.

Your tweet about Britney Spears included an old photo of the two of you. When was that taken?
It was from our days in the Mickey Mouse Club. We were 11 or 12, babies in the business together, which is so amazing to come full circle — to both be able to have the success that we’ve had. It was a beautiful thing to look back at those pictures; there’s such a glow in our eyes. It was a great experience to have, not only with the two of us but all the kids — Justin [Timberlake] and Ryan Gosling and all of us came up together on that show. What a casting director. But shoot — we’ve been working since we were little kids. We all deserve some happiness. I’ll always be supportive of Britney.

Xtina is ‘Re-Inspired by Music All Over Again’ as She Works on Latin Album
2021.07.13. 10:30, Ani

“This album is a coming-full-circle moment for me. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for so many years,” Aguilera tells PEOPLE as she announces her collaboration with SweeTARTS

Xtina is tapping into her Latina roots once again!

Speaking to PEOPLE as she announces her new collaboration with SweeTARTS (in true “Candyman” fashion!), Christina Aguilera opened up about the inspiring process behind her upcoming LP, her second Spanish album more than two decades after Mi Reflejo.

“This album is a coming-full-circle moment for me. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for so many years. I have an amazing team behind me that’s so supportive,” the 40-year-old tells PEOPLE. “I’ve been in music for a really long time, but there’s nothing like being around Latin musicians and artists, the energy they bring to the table, the love and the passion they just bring and exude.”

“I actually am reinspired by music all over again, making this album,” she adds.

Teasing the forthcoming LP, Aguilera explained that the songs will “dive deeper into my roots” as she’ll explore Latin music while keeping “a lot of classic styles and paying tribute to the roots and history of music.”

“You’ll see a lot of those influences in this record as well as, fresh-sounding music,” she clarifies.

The record will serve as the singer’s first full-length Spanish album since 2000’s Mi Reflejo.

“When I listened to my first Spanish record, I love it and I’m thankful for it. I won a Latin Grammy with it, but I listen to the record 20 years later and I’m like, ‘Oh, cute, that was baby Christina!'” she says. “It was like her voice before it’s fully matured and so now things are a lot deeper in context and vocal capabilities that I’m using now, having had all the experience in the business that I have, so it definitely is tapping into new things for me, and with such a level of deeper respect and appreciation for where I’m at now as a grown woman.”

“I’m singing with deeper passion and love and respect and experience than I ever have before,” she adds.

The new interview with Aguilera comes as the singer announced a collaboration with SweeTARTS for an online music mixer (titled SweetBEATS Mixer) and the opportunity to have a studio session with the songstress. For Aguilera, it’s a collab that just makes sense.

“It’s perfect. It’s combining candy and music, two of my favorite things in the whole world,” she says of the collaboration. “I’m very festive, I love holidays and using candy for Halloween, Christmas, filling piñatas, for birthdays, I love throwing parties.”

“It’s in my history, it’s in my blood to join the two together: ‘Candyman,'” she says of her iconic song. “It’s just a perfect collab.”

With the SweetBEATS music mixer, fans will be able to mix and match songs with melodies and rhythms inspired by SweeTARTS candy.
